What is the little tab on trousers waistband for?

What do you do with this thing (it is black below, to the right and below the button closure tab), or is it just a legacy item like suit sleeve buttons. It's on nicer pants like Incotex and RLPL.

You just fasten it over the button that corresponds with it. It helps to keep the front of the trousers flat.

Sorry. I misunderstood. I believe it's a hanging tab, much as with coats.

Steve B.and darkoak are correct. Place the loop over the pin of your belt buckle. The loop keeps the belt centred.

I have never seen this before. Is it visible when you loop it over your belt pin? Isn't that unsightly? I like the lining of those trousers.

no, you put the pin in the loop, and only then do you fasten the belt. hence, the little loop is concealed by your belt tail. !luc

The loop is usually made from the same material as the trousers and it is primarily found on Italian garments.

Well, I missed again...I thought you were referring to that loop (tag?) on the back of the waistband. Third time's the charm, I guess.
