since we're on a fashion board, is the discussion on swagger still pertaining to fashion? isn't swagger just an updated term for confidence? i mean, can't one have swagger in things done well in any aspect of life? i've got mad swagger with work, family, and friends. that's all that counts to me.

It's hard to analyze these perceptions a few months after the fact and I could have been wrong at the time, dude could have been from Portland or something.

I agree that Seattle (really the coastal NW) has a distinctive look, and I am not talking about the whole Northface/camping gear/grunge stereotypes. I can't quantify it easily right now; I just know it when I see it. It looks good on many people, although I don't have that look personally.

It is odd that there is a distinctive look, because there really are very few people here who are originally from Seattle. They are all from the East Coast, Japan, India, etc.

And self confidence comes from within, your not born with it, you mature into it, can be in your teens, 20's of 50's, no time limit or deadline to get it or loose it.

Having good personal style is a whole different issue.

He looks moar confident than the entire WAYWT combined.

Because I have less posts than you on this internet forum?

Huge thread about desert boots and shitloads of people buying desert boots = they are popular on this forum.

And really the desert boots/peacoat/whatever was only an example to say that even though people wear the clothes which are popular/reccommended/sought after, they STILL look awkward and ****.

Eventually everyone falls prey to Birkenstock/tacky loafers. Such is shoe style in Seattle.

That's the only athlete in this thread so far.

Would you guys say David Beckham has swag?

Beckham looks like major eurotrash and is a lads idol, it really depends on the company you keep but let's just say he's not respected in many circles...Athletes in general don't have much cool/style IMHO but then when they're performing in their chosen sport they can be impressive on a very visceral level. Pitt in fight club is a male fantasy, I'm not sure how he'd look walking down the street and it's not like I care too much about wearability... You don't seem to be able to distinguish between vulgar and camp...read some Sontag or something.

Until he opens his mouth and starts talking....

Personaly I dont think he's a confident guy, or that he has swagger, he may look confident, but I dont think he is, its widely known that he shy's away from interviews because he doesnt like the way his voice sounds, I think he even took some voice classes before he moved to LA, and apparently they didnt work either.

Beckham isn't just an athlete though.. and really he hasn't been that great at football for a while anyway

He's a brand, an image primarily now

And the only reason he starts to lose swagger when he speaks isn't the tone of his voice.. it's because he's not very intelligent and he struggles to form sentences

Well there is plenty of that too! And plenty of clueless IT wear, which often incorporates those shoe styles.

I agree that he struggles to make sentences but his voice is crap too, he sounds like a little brit boy and sometimes like a little brit girl.

I hate the word swagger as a sports cliche, "they have their swagger back" or "they play with swagger"

It's such an overused word, if you use it, you don't have it.
