i recently bought a leather jacket from ballys thats made in france, it says that its made of "peau" leather, what does that mean, is that even real leather?

Maybe its not real, because Peau was actual a cartoon.

Peau means skin. It probably means it's real leather.

Peau means skin in French, for whatever that's worth. Maybe it's the literal translation for "leather" and the tag was stating that in both French and English?

Maybe Bally (or your good self) got the name wrong, and it was supposed to mean: Puy leather. 'Tannerie du Puy' is a supplier of premium leathers:
