We see lots of pictures of bespoke shoes and many look superb, but apart from last shape and leather what little details make certain makers stand out and are they important or just cosmetic touches. I have my own ideas but I know there are many shoe experts here who might have hands on facts

Little point in bespoke if the fit is not correct. I meant the little details in the uppers and making.

I agree, but I notice a trend for very exaggerate shapes and very pitched heels which are miles away from the classy bespoke shoes of yesteryear.

Because you can have anything you want, the tendency is to ask for everything you want on the first couple pair of bespoke. After that things tend to stablilize. The shoes look better too.

because you can get a

highly mirror-polished, glazed, mid-brown/dark brown mottled, antiqued ,decadently-rich, beefy leather semibrogue Blucher 5-eyelet in a very heavy double sole with norvogese construction in a handmade , wood-pegged ,fiddle-back waist in a slightly square Italianate elongated toebox with some cherry reddish or mahogany tones on the tips of the toe and heel

if you wanted.

I remember going to Sizzler as a kid and putting a little bit of frozen yogurt in a bowl and then adding about three pounds worth of every conceivable topping.

I never wound up eatting much of those sundaes.

I think many clients would do well to be guided by the shoemaker as to what works and what suits a certain style of shoe .For instance everyone seems to worship the beveled waist but it is not suited to all shoe styles ,a square waist is a stronger construction and done well can look very smart.

Well, you are so funny ! Seems the knowledge of this subject is shallower than I thought. I had hoped for some more informed replies. Artisan fan and co where are you.

It is like anything else bespoke. The owner needs to be happy and the fit needs to be spot on.
