really good shti (sup foodguy). not a conspiracy theory book (although all conspiracy theorists say they aren't). Very level-headed and amazingly well-researched. Truly finds what would probably be a specific grain of sand in a beach, not just needle in a haystack type ****.

Ed, I think my most recent two are as conspiracy as conspiracy gets. Can't wait.

Well I'll say this...you certainly won't be disappointed. She does uncover a bunch and she does say much of what she writes about remains classified so you get plenty of dead ends.

Was she on the daily show? I saw someone on the daily show talking about a new area 51 book or something and it sounded pretty legit

She's the one that thinks the Roswell incident was a Soviet airplane manned by kids. Outside of that bit of bonkerdom, I've read that most of the book is pretty good.

Gravity's Rainbow

We'll see how this goes.

I loved this book! It's always been in the back of my mind to go back and reread it, as it's close to 25 years since my first time through.

It's an incredibly complex book, both in terms of plot and in terms of sources / referents / allusions. I wrote a paper in college about Pynchon's use of the Sephar ha'Zohar, a medieval Jewish mystical text.

It has one of the all time great opening lines:

"A screaming comes across the sky." (referring to a V2 rocket in flight)

Going to put off the conspiracy books for a while. I'm reading this now:

And every morning I read a few fables:

John Burnet, Early Greek Philosophy.

Amazing, this 130 year old book puts the more modern books on the subject to shame, for
two reasons. Those British Empire era scholars were really good at greek and read lots of greek,
and Burnet in particular works all the way from Thales to Plato (and Aristotle). All the recent
guys (and ladies) who think about the "Pre-Socratics" seem to think that label means they
can't read Plato.

Ok, too much information. But I'm shocked I could have missed this book till now; it makes
the modern books more sensible.

Mrs. T has that, but I've not touched it.

Finished:

The Rubicon (Hammond?) - about the last days of the Roman Republic (fantastic)
Luka and the Fire of Life (Rushdie) - It was okay but a pale shadow of Haroun

Working now:

Elements of Moral Philosophy (Rachels) - for a class, but I'm learning from it, and will soon re-read and take notes.
Supreme Courtship (Buckley) - thoroughly enjoying this farce about a TV court judge being nominated to the Supreme Court.

On Deck:

Boweman and the men of Oregon (don't recall the author)
Stalingrad - the Fateful Siege (Beevor)

That sounds good...have a link to an epub? (re: Burnet Philosophy)

I found it on google books, but I want an epub (or mobi I can convert) so I can read it on my Nook.
