Wearing tool/sport watches with suits?

A tool watch would be something like a Rolex Submariner or Omega Planet Ocean or something along those lines. At the very minimum, a Seiko SKX007 which is a classic. A sports watch would be a plastic resin G-Shock or any watch that can monitor your heart rate or distance jogged. The latter is never acceptable with a suit unless you are Justin Bieber, and even then you'd look like an idiot.

On the other hand if you are a man and actually look like one, then there's nothing wrong with wearing a dive watch that's within reason (say 40-42mm, less then 15mm thick) with a suit. And if you are the size and shape of Hulk Hogan, you can pretty much get away with wearing the biggest dive watches made along with your bespoke suit.

lol @ tool watches. i think it depends on the rest of the outfit (shoes/shirt/tie/sans-tie/etc). it definitely can work but obviously not in all situations.

I wear a 40mm Rolex with suits all the time and don't see any problem with it. As long as the watch fits under the shirt cuff and doesn't create a bulge, then it's fine.

Those who say it is alright to wear a sports watch with a suit are among those people.

I often wear my Omega Seamaster or Christopher Ward C60 Trident watches (both dive watches) with my suits, and think they look exemplary.

I can't believe this!

This place is so strict on every rule. Must only wear x with y. Patent leather for tux. Dress belt must only be be 1" to 1.25". Dress for the occasion. Etc. I'll agree with these rules for various logical reasons.

But these same strict people don't want to wear a dress watch for dress and a sport watch when wearing sport (sport coat, casual, lounge, etc).

Dress watch is meant to be worn with dress clothes. Sport watch otherwise. I know you love your deep sea diving 50+mm multi timezone sparkle metallic bracelets with 3 shades of gold, but it is way out of place much of the time. You cannot pair these watches with everything. It will often look tacky, no matter how expensive the brand.

Avoid sports watches with suits. I have worn them with suits, but i try to avoid it.

I disagree. I don't wear my dive watches when I wear a suit all the time, but on the times I do, it looks very good. I also wear a dress watch with my suit. Just depends on my mood on the day.
