These are Charles Tyrwhitt (presumably made by Loake). Grabbed them at a *very* good price point in their outlet store.

Tom, can you comment on the finish of the shoes more? Obviously they aren't going to be up to the standard of their original £200 price point, but I'm interested in how they compare to some of the other brands which make shoes around the £80-150 area. Looking to start a decent shoe collection and they seem to have a decent price point for starters.

I wouldn't go anywhere near anything below the Loake 1880 line. 1880s IMO have a decent construction with generally good leather quality. You will have to judge the fit yourself, but at £80 - if you like the deign - these are a no brainer.

I was talking to Sarah of Bodileys and she said that AS has a new double monk thats similar to the Lowndes but is much better. Can you comment on quality, fit, and construction of the AS Exclusive?

I actually own the C&J Lowndes in black so I can give some feedback; however, my wholecuts are not from the new exclusive line, they were from the previous 'Premier Exclusive' line that was discontinued. From what I have heard from numerous distributors is that the the new AS 'Exclusive' line is much better quality, even more so than the previous 'Premier' or 'Premier Exclusive' line.

My 'Premier Exclusive' Tavistocks is definitely better than the handgrade Lowndes. My AS have softer uppers but still feels durable. The soles are beveled, channeled, and the construction is very excellent. I would put it closer to C&J Handgrade for sure than the benchgrades. My Tavistock is on the 99 last which is more traditional (rounder but still sleek) than the C&J 348 which is longer and clipped toe last.

Both are excellent shoes and I am very happy with them.
