Wanted: Serious Tailor in Chicago

OK guys, time to quit screwing around. Looking for a overwhelming suggestion of a great tailor in Chicago to do basically everything.

Also, another question - I have much invested in aging but still current RLBL/Canali/etc suits/blazers with jackets that are longish in length. I know this has been discussed, but any new revelations out there on shortening them up to make them smack of modernity?

Honestly, I would also love to hear suggestions. I used to go to Gus' Tailor Shop on Ashland and he was amazing- but he has now retired.

Now I go to Peter Field, and they do a pretty good job.

I use Maria at Golden Needle and have been very happy. I believe @Patrick R uses someone up near Rush and Oak, but can't remember the who.

I use Nick at Oak Street Tailors. Has always done well for me. He is out of the office this weekend, but is back on Monday.

Both Nick and Maria were the two alterations tailors that Chris Despos suggested to me years ago. I tried Nick first and haven’t had any issue. But I suspect, based on the reference from Chris and the positive reviews here, Maria is at least as good.

Despos is bespoke only, no alterations of other work. Nick is alterations only, no bespoke.

What types of price ranges are we talking?

A place called Alva tailoring just opened up by my house (Wicker Park)...I was thinking of stopping in there and talking to them.

I have a ton of suits and dress pants that need altering.

I went to a guy in Lincoln Park over the summer...wasnt that happy with what they did.
Going to a tailor seems to be a lot like going to a barber...no matter what you tell them to do, they are going to do things the way they like or are accustomed to.

Boguslaw is excellent for higher-difficulty tailoring. He was on Oak Street but I think may have moved locations.

I've used Peter Field now for the better part of two years in a business-to-business capacity and for personal pieces. They've been able to do complicated work (i.e. shoulders) that I wouldn't trust to others. They also have a buttonhole machine if you're looking to get your sleeves punched. Their pricing is on their website.
