Want to change, but am afraid to spend money.

Consider reading "The richest man in Babylon"... Know how much money you can actually afford to spend. Look for the best deals on things, but don't be afraid to pay for something you simply can't live without. You'll feel more comfortable spending more on items you're more sure about working for you because you've done the research.

I'm a firm believe that having a few "anchor" pieces in your wardrobe can make a huge difference and are worth any cost to have. There are some items price is not a consideration (almost).

Get 1-2 great shoes ($300-600/800), 1 great suit ($1000-2000), 1 beautiful watch ($1500-3000), 1 great white button up shirt ($150), etc. For me, these are the staple items I wear all the time and love at any cost and will get noticed. My shirts, ties, socks, etc change and fade all the time.

Someone can start off with a lot less.... AE shoes, a nice vintage watch, etc.
