I just find it interesting that many people are content to go lie next to a pool somewhere in the Carribean and not move anymore than 1 square mile in 2 weeks, but they rag on Monaco. And what exactly is so tasteless about Monaco that isn't tasteless about Paris or Nice or Cannes? If you're talking about displays of wealth, then you must find London, Paris, and New York even more tasteless. You must despise 5th avenue. I've also seen quite a lot of talk about Vegas here, so the idea that Monaco is tasteless when Vegas seems to be one of the big destinations for people on Styleforum is a bit funny. It s an historic city with few things that are new, besides the apartment buildings. To me it's a great alternative to lying in the sun on some island, because you have easy access to Italy and France. Sometimes all you want to do is sit at a cafe and read a book, eat some great food, and have fun at night. Monaco is great for that, and I don't find anything especially boring about it. Taking it easy in Monaco is just as exciting as taking it easy anywhere in the world.

Monaco I find too vertical. All the water views include boat harbors. I do like the train station. But I prefer the laid back areas just to the east in France.

Do you mean it struck you that way when you visited there or are you just making stuff up again and being rude to people for no apparent reason?

Monaco--I envision myself in a dated Maserati Quattroporte III, the trunk filled with suitcases containing taxidermy and assorted expensive uselessness. I think I would be dressed in dark clothing just to counter the summery aspect of the place.

Sounds like I should do a one-day trip. I'd like to just walk around and eat at a nice restaurant. I don't care for casinos.

Monaco is awesome IMO and as another said it is a great place to just chill and relax as well as being a springboard to check out other areas. When I was a young kid my parents bought a chateau in Roquebrune and we spent a month every summer over there just hanging out. Monaco itself can be a bit boring but San Remo and Nice are 45 minutes away (in opposite directions) and there are alot of cool places nearby as well (Menton and Eze).

We would usually spend a week in Roquebrune, then drive to florence, or fly to paris or Rome for a little while then return back for a week or two before returning to the states. I personally hate the islands and was bored out of my mind the few times I went to St. Martin so Monaco is a good alternative for a low stress vacation. The house is nice because we don't have to stay in a hotel and can cook meals and hang out by the pool as we please. It has remained a nice way for us all to reconnect as a family.

Huh? We can't ALL afford $20 tubes of tootpaste, son.

Why do I get the feeling that you spend most of your time off in Daytona.

No one said anything about backpacking. For a child trying to get into university, you're reading comprehension is quite poor.

I've already been. You also seem like the backpacking type. Do you have a tatoo of a chinese character on your arm?
