UPDATE: In my quest to figure out how to generate a glycerine bath that can be stored in a 5 gallon bucket and used repeatedly, I just sent an email off to the Smithsonian's "Museum Conservation Institute" with a link to the Texas A&M's recipe for the purported Smithsonian glycerine treatment along with some specific questions.

My biggest issue is still on the antimicrobial additive. If the 37% formaldehyde that is readily available on Amazon is sufficient, then I may be getting close to the test run. My preference -- for perhaps no other reason than the cool name -- would be to use Dowicide, but sourcing that is a bit more difficult. (Most of the science chemical cos want me to buy way more than I want to, and it's not cheap.)

Church’s Custom Grade. These were thrifted and had a nasty divot on the left one at the toe tip but I was able to get it smooth with sandpaper. Took a while though.

PTB? Or PTD? Certainly the shoe is a derby, but the lacing isn't wholly independent of the quarters, so not really a blucher. I would lean toward PTD.
