The Hanover shells have now been cleaned, sanitized and three rounds of Bick4. After no where near enough buffing they srill look pretty lifeless. I do not want to add color. So would you guys go with VSC, colourless 1909 creme deluxe or both? (Yes Suitforcourt that spelling was for you)

Everyone here obviously knows how to take care of shoes.

My regime is simply several rounds of Bick 4, and end with Saphir Renovateur.

Lots of brushing in between drying time. And more brushing the morning I take them out.

VSC only if they seem dry.

If you want to do something for me, surrender all of your 8.5/9eee shoes. That would really ease the tension.

What color shoes would you like?

Let's start with shell cordovan in any colour.

In all seriousness, I have to trim the numbers down. It's a little out of hand at 38. Some shoes are clearly not seeing the outside world.

Decided to call on my Florsheim Kenmoors this morning. These are made in India, but I had them restored with JR sole. I quite like the comfort but look is meh. These will likely get chopped in the future cull.

What happened?

Also, can be fixed. Actually, probably one of the more fixable parts of a blucher (far more so than on a balmoral or derby). A good cobbler/repair shop could fix that damage pretty seamlessly as it looks like it’s all past the seam.

No idea. They were at a thrift store. $6.99, but I passed.

By the looks of it, they are early miIndia Florsheim (they were actually putting some effort in at the early stages of that transition - before they decided to ram the brand into the ass-end of the market).

They certainly aren’t bad looking, and the uppers stitching quality is quite good. Whoever did the outsole stitching did an excellent job from what I can see. I’d keep ‘em for rainy days.

Looked around (everything isn't unpacked since moving to Arizona two months ago because we are moving to the new place when the work there is done) and found the postcards from Willie's Shoe Service on La Brea Ave in Los Angeles.

These are done by Ryan Cecil Smith, whose menswear drawings appear regularly in the Put This On blog.

Here's Ryan doing some of his drawings at The Bloke's (a men's store in Pasadena CA) pre-opening party a few months ago. (Some of you might also recognize the person sitting on the right.)

Good morning gents!

Shoe care question for you guys -- I have VSC and Renovateur that I use regularly in my maintenance routines, but I hear so many people refer to Bick 4 quite frequently. Question for those of you that are familiar -- how does Bick 4 differ from these and in what applications do you find it works best?

Bick 4 would be better for handling the initial work on a very dry pair, as it's just a conditioner (won't leave much of a shine, but more than AE leather lotion). VSC/Saphir Renovateur are conditioning polishes, so they're more of a regular maintenance 2 in 1 product.
