Re: Deus Ex 3...

is it going to suck? DX2 was such a mega letdown. Okay, I need some help here. I bought a Wii and it's been fun a couple of times though I haven't been spending a lot of time at home lately. With the crap weather coming up I'll probably have a lot more time to play it. I got GH3 for it and the controller is unbelievably bad - the strum bar bounces back up and ruins your lines so you have to push it down positively like a button and not strum it like a guitar. It's so frustrating and makes the game very tedious and not fun, unlike 1 and 2 for PS2. I also found an Xbox 360 in my apt's dumpster, just sitting nicely on a pile of boxes... hooked it up and it overheats, so I sent it in and they sent a new one (it's at my parents' house but I'll pick it up tonight or tomorrow night). I need to order controllers and a power adaptor for it if I'm going to keep it. But... should I? What games do I want? And mainly, is there any way the thing can be hacked into a media center PC, which is what I would really want to use it for generally? I don't really want to get into any games that involve me sitting for hours building characters and arranging backpacks and crap. TBH I'm tempted to just get rid of it and stick with the Wii but just wanted to know if there's anything I'm really missing out on.

Xbox seems more up your alley than the Wii. Yes, you can use it as a media center (and easily, no hacking necessary), and there are plenty of less hardcore games to be purchased in stores and downright casual games to be downloaded on Xbox Live Arcade. To answer you more specifically, what sort of games have you had fun with in the past? As for the Wii, I haven't had much fun with mine outside of Mario and Zelda. As for Deus Ex, probably.

I believe it has that ability out of the box. I've never used it myself to tell you how good it is as a Media Centre, as I have my original Xbox with XBMC.

But yeah, no hacking required for that.

And I don't think the 360 has many games that "involve sitting for hours building characters and arranging backpacks and crap"... At least I never play those games. There are quite a few story-driven FPS games like Gears of War and Bioshock for the 360 that are brilliant.

Man... I hope they don't piss all over it like last time. I was just thinking yesterday how I'd like to go hang out in the Paris subway level of DX1. That's one of the few games I actually have thoughts like that about. (Canal Zone from Q1TF, and some of the areas from The Getaway being other "places" I think about the same way) Weird I know, but it shows how immersive a good game can be, especially if you spend way too much time playing it.

You found a 360 in an apartment dumpster? Quite the score.

The 360 easily has the largest variety of games on a current-gen systems. A small percentage of those games require you to tediously micro-manage your character's inventory.

If you just want some quick pick-up-and-play kicks, then just steer clear of rpgs. Gears of War is great. Halo is dumb fun. Forza is an excellent racer. Guitar Hero 4 and Rock Band can be a blast, too. Sports? Covered. There are countless choices.

If you're not really a gamer, and the Wii will suffice, why not throw it up on craig's list and make a little cash?

I'm playing BIOSHOCK but it's so scary at times that I have to turn it off. Sometimes I play without sound. That helps. I'm a wimp.

Not the Hong Kong Level? I always wanted to go there. Maybe that's just really what Hk is like, though.

360 games - if you have friends who play, Halo 3. Alternatively, CoD4. If not, I'd go with Braid(a cheap must-download), Rock Band 2, Bioshock, Grand Theft Auto 4....

Gah! Just like my girlfriend and Resident Evil 4!

Hope you're enjoying the game, at any rate. Bioshock is easily one of my favorites on the 360. Rumor is that the PS3 version will get a preview trailer for the sequel. I'm looking forward to it.

I'd like to pick up BioShock when i get my Home Theatre and everything set up. That, and possibly LittleBigPlanet! It looks quite unique and interesting...I am definitely going to look at Far Cry 2 as well. Fallout 3 has already been pre-ordered..can't wait! Some good games arriving soon!

That's cause to call it a half-day at the office to go home and play.

Only played the demo for MM9, but I'll probably purchase it soon since I'm old and nostalgia is a wonderful thing. Additionally, my skills must have regressed, because the demo kicked ******. It's more MM1 difficult (2 was probably the easiest, but still my favorite).

No Dead Space players? I was on the fence with that one, but chose to wait. Hopefully, we'll have a demo soon. I've already pre-ordered LittleBIGPlanet and Fable II and chose to hold off on any freelance work for next week (I'm a designer). Shows how f'd up my priorities are.

Picked up MM9 a while back, its a great game. Some of the weapons are rehashes of old versions (you can charge the fire shot, for example, like in MM2). Its old school awesome from start to finish, and worth the $10.

I'm waiting on a Dead Space demo myself. The game is supposedly short (10-15 hours) with little replay, so it screams "rent!" to me. Don't know when Blockbuster will get it in stock though.

As for Mother 3, I read a great review about it yesterday. Makes the game sound like literature more than interactive entertainment.
