Any of you size down 0.5 from service boots to derby shoes if you know you'll be wearing them with thinner socks? I'm debating trying this out, but wanted to reach out here first.

Assuming the same last, I would not recommend it.

The only person I've heard even remotely consider this was Richard of Withered Fig in his review of his mushroom chamois oxfords, I don't think it's considered a very smart move by the general population

I did that on two occasions, both with excellent results. I was downsizing from service boots on 1035 and 2040 lasts, to oxford shoes on 1035 and 110 lasts.
For reference, I’m a Brannock 11C, wear size 10 service boots (1035, 110) and engineer boots (2005), size 9.5 oxfords (1035 and 110); and also size 9.5 hikers (320 last).
All of these fit well. I do use thinner socks on my oxfords than on my service and engineer boots for a comfortable fit.
