For what it is worth, at least my manufactum boots are actually pretty thick shell cordovan compared to others I own and have handled. I'd have to agree that the tongue on the other hand is quite thin and soft leather (it is not shell cordovan). I have not had any troubles lacing the boots around my ankles.
I think the tongue is black oil-tanned leather, unless they're using a different leather from the one on the black CXL boots.

They are different. I've owned both now. It's almost feels like a super thin chamois cloth. But I know it's not.

How come?  Just for durability...?  Or another reason...?

Just for durability. I have been advised by more than one boot makers that boots made from HH without lining will not last well. Shell appears to be OK tho I still prefer it lined.

Well, I hope this isn't true! I have never owned a pair of HHs until recently, but have always heard that it's a hardwearing leather. Certainly it seems thick and durable, with none of the stretchiness of CXL. But only time will tell I guess... For now, I love it.

Are these service boots? If yes, whicj last? They look like Bobcats to me. I'm asking because I like their look and would like to order some similar. Thanks.

Brand new Horsehide 110s, 8 eyelets, plain cap toe, Dainite sole. Very cool boots nearly every respect.

What I love: the Horsehide is just my favorite boot leather, and is both thick and tough but also has some richness to it. The Dainite sole is cool, and the natural midsole works well I think. Plain cap toe and slightly contrasting brown stitching, also nice.

What I don't quite love: I really prefer the more substantial, rounded toe of the 2045 or 310 lasts, the toe on these 110s is just a bit too dressy for me. I had intended to get silver eyelets, but I think because I wrote "silver/gunmetal" thinking they were the same I got gunmetal which is not silver, oh well. The boots have a slight built in "pronation" (leaning inward), which I've noticed on other Vibergs.

This gets me close to my perfect black boot, but alas is not quite there. Unfortunately the 310 and 2045 did not quite work fitwise, whereas I think these will, so in the end that's what wins out.

[Sorry for the bad pics; they were all done last night with a flash. I'll get some natural light pics soon that will show off the horsehide better.]

How would you compare horsehide to chromexcel? More pliable/flexible? Not as thick? Heavier/lighter? Tougher? More/less glossy?

Definitely less glossy than CXL (but more than Oil Tan), and definitely less stretchy and less susceptible to nicks and marks. It seems about as thick to me, and probably slightly heavier. Less pliable than CXL, but neither is it stiff.

Honestly, I love the HH; it's by far my favorite boot leather. I have never owned pair over a course of years however, so we'll see how tough it is in the long run. I have always heard that it wears like iron, but we'll see.

After a lot of wear, gave my boondockers some dubbin treatment. Only the vamp and counter for now.
