I've got a birthday party coming up which is semi-formal. (The location will be a casual but fairly trendy bar/charcuterie) Normally my go to would be a nice shirt and tie with a vest instead of a suit jacket, because
A: For my height and build vests are extremely flattering
B: If I'm going to be drinking and partying all night, vests tend to stay in place, look neat and feel comfortable, long after a suit jacket has gotten wrinkled, too hot and cumbersome.
HOWEVER; I'm thinking about skipping the slacks and going with a pair of dressier jeans instead.
So, would dark jeans, a vest probably somewhere from mid-dark grey to possibly black, over a white and black gingham shirt and black tie work out? Here are some examples of the shirt direction I am leaning towards
I'm also wondering, if I go for this look, would you suggest a flatter fabric tie as opposed to something silk/glossier?
Do I need to find a more casual vest fabric? I already have a grey and a black vest that could potentially work, but they both have the bemberg back, and I feel like that would look too out of place over jeans? A vest with a regular fabric back is going ot take me a little more footwork to find, but if I go for the jeans, I'd think its going to be a requirement correct?
Finally, with this entire look in mind: Sleeves cuffed? Cool or Dbag?
Thanks for your help guys.
