Depends greatly on what exactly you buy, but the range is appx. $450-$800.

They cost 95,000 - 135,000 Hungarian forint, depending on the model and leather. 115,000 is the price of a standard u-last in calf. See this thread:

http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=48478

By the way, if you are visiting Budapest just once, then bespoke is not an option. They require a second store visit several months post-order for a second fitting. Made-to-order is the norm for the pricing listed above, meaning that you pick your model, standard last, leather, color, and sole, but you must use a standard last.

The shoes will be sent to you roughly 6-8 weeks post-order. You can get a 15% discount for cash payment or, alternatively, get VAT refund. However, if they ship to you in the U.S., you may pay an import duty that cancels some of the VAT refund. The 15% cash discount is the best way to go.

^^^

Thanks for the info I read the thread. I am going to be going to England for a month over the summer. I was planning to visit some other places for a few days here and there in Europe as well (Paris, Vienna, Prague). I want to go to Budapest as well but I think a lot of that also has to do with the Vass shoes themselves...

They usually open on Saturdays and close on Sundays. But last time I was there they opened on Sundays till 1 pm, but that could be the extended shopping hours for Christmas only.

I sent Vass an email regarding cost and received the reply below.

Dear Sir,

We offer a large selection of ready-to-wear handmade shoes in our shop and also made-to-measure service. We adjust a standard last to your measurements and the shoes made on this special last are ready within about 5-6 weeks. The price is approximately 600 EUR.

Best regards

If you go to Vienna then you should try Maftei bespoke for about the same price as Vass mtm and I (as other members of this forum) can vouch for Maftei's great workmanship

Has anyone else had a hard time getting a hold of Vass in Budapest. Are they usually slow to respond to e-mail? I want to order a pair of Italian Oxford U last and can't seem to do it. Is it worth getting an international calling card and calling instead of e-mail? Any help in ordering from Vass would be appriciated!

They've always responded to me within a few days by email.

To my knowledge, one can't just place a first order by phone. One needs to go there first to confirm size. If you want to buy remotely without visiting Budapest, then try www.budapesterschuhe.de.
