Uptown Dallas -- Should I relocate here?

Long story short, I have the opportunity to relocate to Dallas, TX for my job. I have all the career-related questions sorted out for the most part, but now I just want to see what members have to say about living in Dallas. I'd probably move to Uptown Dallas, as that's where all the young, single professionals live, or so I've been told.

What kind of apartments can I get for $500 a month? $750 a month? $1,200 a month? I'm opting to choose a cheaper place because I'll be traveling four days out of the week so I barely will be in my place as it is. That being said, I do want to live in a nicer place so I'm more willing to spend a bit more because I understand that the cost of living in Dallas is way cheaper than in Boston. What neighborhoods in Uptown Dallas should I check out?

What is the crowd like? Is there diversity or is it predominately white? What kinds of clubs are there in Dallas -- what's the club scene like (aka what kind of music and are all the guys sporting the Ed Hardy wardrobe?) Shopping? Food/restaurants?

How's the weather during the winter there?

What is this phenomenon of the $30K millionaire? Are they everywhere and will I want to punch them in the face wherever I go?

GF, you would fit right in in Uptown as you are the epitome of the $30k millionaire.

P.S., the $30k millionaire was an 80s thing. With inflation and all, it's now known as the $70k millionaire.

Hi,

My dads from Dallas but I've lived in South Florida my entire life. We have considered moving to Dallas several times but never actually have gone through with it. We have looked at houses in the uptown area. Uptown Dallas and the rest of it are two different worlds. I like Uptown a lot because you get the southern hospitality with a generous dash of southern class. The people are very nice.

As far as social life goes there are again two different worlds. There are the classless clubs which play mainstream hip-hop and top 40(my cousins are all promoters at theses places) and then there is the classier electronic scene which is associated with uptown. Its not miami,but it still is pretty impressive and people will be dressed very well. Basically, you get what you pay for.

As far as food, Dallas has some of the best food in the world in any area and both "worlds" of dallas. You can get delicious quick food like BBQ, mexican, and wings in huge quantities for really sweet prices. If thats not your cup of tea, uptown and downtown have great american fusion cuisine. The Dallas Ritz carlton has one of the best restaurants in the United States.

Shopping there is great. Northpark mall in uptown is wonderful. Neimans started out of Dallas, thus they're largest store is there. You will have all your major needs covered (barneys, nordstrom, bloomingdales) and some really great independent men stores(one of my uncles is a haberdasher in dallas) for all your satorial needs, if OP is a gentleman. If OP is a women, there are a few boutiques but i have never checked it out perosnally.

Check out the Fresno area or area around northpark

I've never lived in Dallas, but uptown is where I would live. Sure, there are a ton of those douches that are leasing their BMWs just to impress the girl with the implants, but it's a nice area. People are laid back. The women are pretty abundant.

No idea what the rent prices are like. But you should be able to figure that out just from playing around online. I will say that anytime I've gone to uptown parking was somewhat rare, so you might want to find a complex that had a private spot for your car.

Primo's (Tex Mex) is one of my favorite places up there. Good food and always...ALWAYS eye candy. Plenty of bars and other good restaurants in the area. Shopping's been mentioned. Never felt unsafe for a second when hanging out in uptown.

My only advice is to avoid the suburbs.
