They're the correct footwear for usage with black tie, but very unfortunately rare these days. If you have the means to obtain a pair and have the occasion to wear them, please do. Anything to keep it alive.

Many thanks to all. You are correct. Pumps is the correct terminology. I just didn't want to offend anyone. My cousin is getting married on 6/4. Although I am not in the wedding I have been asked to wear a black tuxedo. Personally, I believe that they are smart and look wonderful with a tuxedo.
