Trenchcoat - Burberry or Aquascutum (cotton vs blend)

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a navy, fitted, above-the-knees trenchcoat from either Burberry or Aquascutum. I've tried on both and feel that the design/fit are interchangeable. The Burberry one is about 50% more expensive but is 100% cotton, while there is no 100% cotton option for Aquascutum – they seem to offer 35% cotton / 65% polyester only. Could you please offer some thoughts on if the 100% cotton Gabarbine fabric used on Burberry warrants the extra cost in terms of durability and performance? Many thanks in advance!

Aquascutum sometimes do short runs of 100% cotton items, but you're right, they are rare and I haven't seen one recently.

Burberry's extra cost is more a matter of branding than quality IMO - both makers produce excellent raincoats - but obviously the 100% cotton is also a selling point in this particular case. Personally, I prefer cotton too. Functionally, I don't think there's much difference, though the poly blend is probably a bit more waterproof in really heavy weather.
