Trench coat alterations - costs, alternatives?

Hello!

I've been on the look-out for a beige trench coat for about two years now, being tall and slim the modern ones feel too short and also have too many "modern details" I dislike, and the vintage ones I've seen feel too wide and have too short arms, etc. What I'm looking for should be classic, only with a modern, slim, fit.

However, today I stumbled upon a vintage trench coat for only £10, and to my great surprise the arm length and the shoulder width were great, and the length was also sufficient. I would, however, still have to make quite a lot of alterations if I bought it. It's too wide, a bit too long and the arms are too wide. I guess a tailor could fix this quite easily, but furthermore it lacks a belt (which is a must for me) and the collar is way too big (I'd prefer a very small one). Is this even doable, and about how much do you think it would cost if I went to a tailor with it?

I was kinda drawn away by the price, but perhaps it would be too much of a project, and I fear that the cost still will be too high in the end. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts about this, and also any alternatives you can come up with! Vintage/second hand/something like that stores with a decent selection of trench coats in London would be great.

Thanks a lot!
Sam
