Possible contenders that I have yet to see: Up, The Hurt Locker, Funny People, A Serious Man, The Road, Invictus, Up In the Air, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

I liked it, but it didn't make the cut. Same with Star Trek.

I think Watchmen was my biggest disappointment.

I hardly ever see movies these days. Hoping to begin seeing a few more. Of the ones mentioned here I've only seen Up, Star Trek and the Road. Am going to see Invictus tonight.

I agree. The elements of the film are so understated that it takes a couple viewing to understand its brilliance. Possibly their best movies.
