Tie Knot

Guys,

I am pretty short, so tying a tie is a bit of an issue. I have some 8.5cm blade width ties (narrower than the standard ones) and I can never seem to get a perfect knot that covers the upper button properly and sits beautifully in the middle of the collar, without a bit of the piece that goes round the neck showing.

This probably is because I don't know how to tie a tie properly (I have gone through all the resources online!), but I was wondering if anyone has any tips n tricks to get the knot (and perhaps, length) perfect?

Thanks!

Pics my good man. Perhaps a different knot will do the trick. Perhaps it's a relatively thin fabric. Can't really tell without.

You probably just need to tighten in a little more. It's not a problem if a tiny bit is showing: that's just the nature of a tie knot.
If your collar is particularly spread, it's actually impossible to avoid bits of the tie showing on both sides.

Ralph Lauren's purple label advertisements were full of fashionably over-exposed four-in-hands with spread collars. However methinks most would opt for a half windsor or a pratt (big fan of the pratt knot) knot with wider collars.

+1 for the pratt/shelby. It's my go to knot for anything but a grenadine.

As a poster has commented, pictures of a knot you are currently tying would help. If you are not determined to use only the Windsor or Half Windsor knot, the one (I think one name for it is the Prince Albert) in which the wide blade wraps twice around the narrow blade may help by taking up more length of the tie than other knots. Another idea you may want to try (if you are determined to continue wearing ties) is to have a tailor or alterations person shorten your ties by eliminating part of the middle section.
