I've started getting all my three season SB suits from Steed with a vest. Here's a notch lapel one button with a DB shawl vest, two pockets on the vest:

Here's a notch lapel three button with a SB notch lapel vest in process:

I also have a houndstooth suit in process cut line the one above.

I've become convinced by the added versatility a vest offers an SB suit.

Vox,
This has been my thinking lately. A 3 piece can become a 2 piece but not vice versa. If I spend a little more on the front end I increase my versitility, but if I skimp I can never go back.

I can understand if, like edmorel, you're not comfortable ever wearing a vest. But I'm not sure I'd do a SB 2 piece again unless it was so specialized that a vest would be out of place somehow.

Plus, I almost never take off my jacket during the day. About the only time that I consider doing that is if I have a vest on.

Thats funny, I had mine on the other day and my boss came by to inquire why I was still wearing it? In this case it was just to stay warm, the office is freezing in the summer. And I oft need a heater.

Am I the only one who finds lapels on the vest make the entire outfit look overly busy?

No. Many small timers share your opinion.

I think they look a little off on single-breasted waistcoats, but on double-breasted it's the only way to go.

Yes, thank you, J. Fiennes' suit is terrible, both as clothing and costume. It betrays a fundamental lack of understanding of the Steed character, and it commits the even worse sin of being ugly. The horizontally striped vest is an unfortunate gimmick, and it serves only to confuse the eye. It competes with the horizontal stripes in a way I find completely unappealing.

Here's the real Steed in a proper three-piece:

And here he is in a striped three-piece, a distant relation of the movie costume. Note that the bowler fits.

Don't often see Steed with a gun:

This has nothing to do with anything except that it's charming:

That is usualy what I go with, I don't like anything higher then a two button since it hides most of the vest. I don't really have a preference on the vest some of mine are 6 and some are 8.

I have some French Cuff shirts, but not as big a selection. I agree that some of these more wild suits probably require I bust them out....especially that chalk stripe RLPL.

This is also a 3 piece, although I don't have a shot with the vest.
