Thoughts on J.Crew Ludlow jacket fit?

Please ignore the shorts. In a few months I'll be in the market for an interview suit and I was planning to really, really stretch the budget and go with Mr. Ned (NYC). My justification was that nothing else really quite fits. I was in a J.Crew today, though, and tried on this Ludlow jacket. What do you all think about the fit? It's a $700 suit now, but I'm sure that I could wait out a sale online and snag it for way less, maybe $400 or so.

(Sorry it's just one shot, I was in a rush. Also let's just assume the pants fit well.)

It's not bad.

J Crew are arguably among the cheapest (half) canvassed suits out there, probably eclipsed in workmanship and quality (and definitely in range of fabrics and styles) by SuitSupply.

IMO Ludlows are an awkward fit for reasons it's hard to define, but they always seem a bit 'off' to me in some way., and I only think they are of value if you get them on deep discount otherwise your money would be better spent elsewhere.

But the fit in your pic is OK so my advice would be to be sure of your size then either as you say wait for a sale or look for BNWT offers on eBay which seem to come up quite often.

JCrew is the greatest OTR fit ever, IF you have the body type for it.
What does a Mr. Ned suit cost?

It's apples an oranges, but Mr. Ned suits are bespoke and start at $950. It would be a big stretch for my budget, so seeing how that Ludlow jacket fit was a very pleasant surprise. That's why I was especially curious what you all would think.

The other reason I tried on that jacket is that I'll also soon be in the market for a tuxedo. I have one, but it's formerly my dad's (similar body type) and fits pretty awfully. Today's J.Crew store didn't have tuxedo jackets, but according to the SA the fit's the same since they're all the Ludlow line. Of course I'd go try it on first, but now I'm thinking maybe I'd get the Ludlow tuxedo too. The downside is that they're never really on sale, so for that I'd pay ~$700.

I was in J. Crew the other day as well checking out their stuff. Like yourself, the fit was pretty good for me; what put me off is the slim lapels as I like them a little wider.

I'd echo Suitsupply if it's just a basic interview suit that you're looking for. Also, Benjamin just released some more of his line of suits (ehaberdasher.com); for $525 for a full canvassed suit, it's pretty good deal, in my mind and worth checking out. Both of those sites also have tuxedos for a very reasonable price (although Benjamin's stock of his tux's are pretty slim) also.
