Random factoid that connects both these things while being completely unrelated-
The first gold rush in America was in North Carolina, just outside Charlotte. When the University of North Carolina at Charlotte was looking for a mascot, it decided to highlight this heritage and went with a miner. "But 609," you're thinking, "aren't they called the 49ers?" Why yes, they are indeed. And that's because the university was chartered in 1949, which the university also wished to commemorate. Now, a cynic might say that this was a ploy to use higher profile historical references to raise awareness of a university struggling to get recognition in a state with multiple better known schools. But a true UNCC 49er would simply tell such a person, "Kiss my axe!"

I've been to a Dirtbags game! My son's girlfriend is at CSULB. Luckily for them Southwest runs three flights a day from DAL to LGB and they are both inside 15 minutes to each airport.

I don’t get those car dealership promos where they make you think you’ve won a nice prize…like a scratch off where it looks like you’ve won a $500 gift card to cabelas.

But when you read the fine print a few times you realize it says the price table is for “illustration purposes only” and you definitely only won the crappy $5 earbuds. Usually it is very opaque language and not at all obvious that the contest is a sham.

Do car dealers really want people walking in and having their very first interaction leave them feeling misled and cheated?

I guess it works in a Nigerian scammer sort of way, but it seems like a really bad way to generate sales leads. I would never buy a car from them after that.
