I used to live there so I feel ya. It was a scorching 96 here today but it will be mid 60s by sunset and mid 50s by midnight. Highs in the low 70s by the weekend.

I remember an internal interview I had for a promotion. I met the head of the division in the food pantry. I even brought a copy of my resume. He brushed it aside, asked why I wanted to be a part of the team, told me a bit about what they were doing.....then said........welcome to the team.

I think that's the tough thing about working in a larger organization--management has to at least go through the motions of considering enough people for the job so that when they eventually hire the person they wanted all along, it doesn't look like a sham that would lead to a bunch of HR issues.

Some of it is HR bullshit. HR has such a strong hold on everything at my company and I don't understand why. This one guy used to ***** about it all of the time and the entire HR department literally reported to him. He didn't understand how anything he wanted to do got bulldozed.

Somebody getting hired in a food panty would never happen in a billion years. Also, I can't even hand somebody a resume of a friend who is looking for a gig. I could get in serious trouble. I feel like an asshole when people are like, oh hey I am interviewing with his guy, can you put in the good word??? I have to tell them no, and good luck (unless the person is in my direct group and I know them REALLY well.)

The company wants to keep it's name out of the papers....so HR is tasked with doing EVERYTHING by the book so no one can claim otherwise.

In fairness, the job was for dishwasher so interviewing in the actual workspace (food pantry) was entirely appropriate.
