1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

And this is coming from someone who does nothing but post unfunny and repetitive bullshit in general chat for the past six years.

Putting a sock/troll on Ignore is useless when people insist on quoting him.

I didn't realize IC and special flowers were mutually exclusive. I thought it was supposed to come with the territory

I can't stand news websites that have taken a stance of big logos, big text, and big pictures. I typically browse through a bunch of news sites each day, and now a few have taken to the un-readable format of big text. CNN, NY Post (I know, not a news site), and the LA Times have come to mind as guilty of this trend (sorry, foodguy, but I still hate the setup and visit the site much less), but I know there's others.

I mean, if I have your news website open and expanded to all of my window and only 3-5 stories are visible without scrolling, IMO it's a bad setup.

I have a theory about this... most newspapers are still run by newspaper types. They are still scared in many ways of what the internet will do and, frankly, many have no clue what do to with the internet and an out-dated product (in full disclosure: I prefer dead-tree newspapers and am at best, technologically inept). But, most critically, they don't have the money to hire a good web designer/strategist. I would imagine fg has better insight into the Tribune company's inner workings but here in atlanta my theory is more fact than fiction.

I don't know if this is the case. It seems like all of the moves these websites have made recently are deliberately in the name of branding and revenue generation. And in the news media's case, what is good for the company does not seem to be good for the consumer. I never visit the home pages of news sites and only read their articles when pointed there by someone else because seeing all the nonsense annoys me.
