Close friend offed himself last night. He'd been MIA for three days, we all thought it was because he owed another friend money.

Officially giving up on building Casa de Piob. The RE market here is just too fucked up and will continue to be fucked up hard for another 5-10 years. Only three houses were built out in the 12 parcel little development we bought the land in. One house was 80% completed and the owner was trying to sell it. He lived in one of the other two completed houses and was trying to sell it too. Bank owns both of them now and has the more expensive one on the market at well under 50% of what he was originally trying to sell it for. Not a chance we are going to be able to finance our build project with those comps. Time to sell the lot, take a little loss, and sit on our cash for a couple of years and buy a foreclosure. It's the end of a dream but it's the right thing to do. We'll probably end up with something very nice, for less money, but it will not be "our" house that we so carefully planned out.
^That's a bummer, Piob, but also could be an opportunity for some legitimate bargain shopping. If big ticket houses are on the market for 1/2 price, you should be able to drive a hard bargain on a house somewhere.
That sucks Pio, sorry to hear it. But hey, as long as the house has a wine cellar...
