My phone has been having problems charging so I took it to a shop to fix on Friday, they told me to come back on Monday when it would be fixed. Came in Monday, they said actually it won't be ready until tomorrow. Tuesday they said Weds... today they said Thursday or maybe Friday... hence the lack of pics or indeed comments of any kind.

Which is a pity as today I had some time to kill waiting for my friend to get back from the beach so I went in the second hand shop near her place and tried on a few bits and pieces. They had three nice tracksuit tops made by a company called Iuanvi which I've literally never heard of - my favourite was priced at 12 euros and although I had no need whatsoever for a new top I was more than tempted at that price. I couldn't quite decide so I thought I'd go and get a beer in the cafe opposite... and then I realised that they were having a sale and everything in the shop was half price... which basically meant that if I went and sat in a cafe and had a few beers while mulling it over I would have quickly spent more than the price of the top. So I bought it... and then went and had a few beers too obviously.

Pretty pleased with this top for a price so ridiculously low that it might as well have been free. Normally when that happens I get home and find an enormous hole in it or something of that nature, but so far I can't find anything wrong with it at all.

I went out to dump the recycling in the local bin and found that someone had chucked out this rather nice, but sadly broken chair. For someoen who knows how to fix this kind of thing I think it will make quite a nice find in itself, but for me it was just a photo opportunity.

And here I am wearing it a little earlier on her patio

And again....

Anyone know this make? Where it's from etc? I'm pretty sure it's not some football team I don't recognise, though maybe some of the other ones were, in terms of colours it reminds me a little of Germany from about 1990 (when I think they won the World Cup if memory serves) but it's definitely not that.

I won't hear a bad word against francesinhas or frango assado.
I knew I was asking for trouble badmouthing francescinhas but I thought here might be the only place it's safe. I play squash sometimes and there is a Scottish guy I met at the courts, sometimes I go there with him and this French bloke and we have a beer or four after the game.... the conversation turned to food and, although I'm not sure if they strictly count as food, to francesinhas - Arnaud said that to him they represent someone raising a single finger to the entire concept of food... that they are an actual insult to food itself. Though for balance I should say that it turned out Charlie is rather keen....

I don't understand why Portuguese food isn't more popular?
There is a lot of fantastic food, normally at prices so low you think they've made a mistake (the downside of that is that I normally break down in tears when I go back to London and buy something). It tends to be very simple but with amazingly fresh ingredients etc I particularly like the seafood; I remember going to one restaurant and having about ten different sizes and types of prawns ranging from tiny ones through normal and king-sized, then the langoustines, then the huge scarlet prawns, then the ENORMOUS tiger prawns and finally a lobster (I didn't go through all the different types of lobster though). Tiger prawns are amazing, a bit smaller than a small lobster but with relatively more meat I'd say. There are also these things called bruxas (witches) which I've only had once but - despite looking like cockroaches - are lush.

And of course percebes which I'd never even heard of before I moved here (though I think we do have them apparently under the name goose barnacles)

All amazing stuff.

The only thing I will say is that compared to the sheer variety of cuisines available in London it does start to feel a little bit limited after a while. But it feels churlish to complain really...
