Not in defense of anything, but my line of thinking yesterday morning went something like this: going to an extremely casual event I wanted to be dressed one step more interesting than everyone else without looking completely out of place. I started with the frayed cargo shorts with show stitching and patching, then went with items I felt had similar texture elements -- the Banana Republic linen striped shirt with obvious stitching, the khaki patterned tie for some faux-formality, and a hat that has a couple of shades in common with the shirt and which is also heavily patterned and textured. I went with the Vans because my only other shoe options for poolside are boat shoes and Nike Hyperdunks and both felt less right. You may want to sit down for this, but I actually think this is fairly representative of my everyday style. I split my time between a business casual setting and a line of work where most everyone's wearing dad jeans or Dockers with off-brand sneaks from Kohls and a band t-shirt. I feel most comfortable picking what I like from the different worlds, adding elements too formal for both but worn in an informal way, and trying to make them work together (trying...). What I wore yesterday was pieced together with that in mind. Hopefully you were sitting. I can't in any way disagree with the actual fit of the items being bad and I'm glad you're calling me out on it; that's what's going to get me to demand more out of my fits. I just wanted a little more from you because, a) I've been paying attention to what I wear for two weeks and anyone who's been doing it for more is going to have good insight, even if their style is completely and irreconcilably different, and b) comments as simple as "bad" or "start over," even when entirely accurate, are basically content-less. In the same way when you see a post and are disappointed that it doesn't provide an inspiration to you and instead is in need of critique, it's underwhelming to see a comment to a post you've made that's critical without being constructive and without the informed specifics that can help you figure it out for yourself. Regardless, thanks for the opinions and the help, both initially and in followup, and I apologize in advance if my coming post for what I'm going to wear today leaves you speechless and flabbergasted once again.

Cargo shorts are more casual in general, so something at the knee (even as low as the bottom of hte knee) will do just fine. -The shirt doesn't fit. If you're going untucked, it needs to not have so much material to billow out and make you look fat. The sleeve also don't fit very well. However, this can be remedied by rolling them (which should have been done given the context of the fit). -The tie... Srsly bra? General rule, and this is fairly unanimous in both SW&D and MC, is that you don't wear a tie with an untucked shirt. Also, it doesn't match, it doesn't contrast, it doesn't "pop" or provide any flair/sprezzatura. It's also unnecessary texture given that it's being worn over a chambray. -Textures: there is such a thing as one too many Edit: If you were kixslf, you probably would have gotten mad props on this fit. It wouldn't make it any better, but I will note that there is a certain disparity between a fit and the love it receives.

Ah, no, there is a big difference between kixslf's fits and this one, if you really can't see that I don't know what to tell you. Maybe think twice about the merit of a fit if your judgement of it goes contradictory to everyone elses?

Much better but I'd either swap the t-shirt out or unbutton the jacket to keep the suit casual. Also those pants urgently need a hem, once hemmed they would like nice rolled up once with the boat shoes.

pants are toooo long
jacket is to big in shoulders and sleeves are toooo lang
t shirt under jacket is marsupialed in any context and makes you look like a frat boy douche
shoes could be passable
hat is tacky.

Not much else to add that hasn't already been said. The funny thing is that the suit would look better if you had worn the shirt and shoes in your first pick.

Still, ditch that hat.

Ditch the outfit.

If I post a picture and it gets no comments, should I assume that is a good thing(as in there was nothing to nit-pick)?
