I’m a style philistine compared to the people on this board, but whenever I see oversized or drape-y coats, it makes me think of when my parents would take me to Burlington Coat Factory in the 80s to buy me a suit that voluminously enveloped and overwhelmed my small frame.

I try to see past this, but 1980s Burlington might be why I much prefer soft shoulders and a cut that fits a little closer to the body.

(Yes, my parents were style savages.)

It's very difficult to have a discussion about whether any particular picture actually represents something good or worth thinking about when there is this avalanche of random stuff. I mean, what exactly have JFK, Jimi Hendrix and costumes from Last of the Summer Wine got in common? The latter were specfically designed to look ridiculous, for example... and there are plenty of other outfits here that are not good, except insofar as good looks and a good photographer convinces us that they are.

The guy in the back and white photo in the white shirt and shorts looking out the window is Porfirio Rubirosa,
correct? In keeping with his elegant persona, he died when he crashed his Ferrari 250GT into a chestnut
tree in the Bois De Bologne after a night of celebrating his Polo team's victory in the Coupe de France.

Sounds like he was looking to pick up a prostitute & forgot to keep his eyes on the road or someone got revenge for one of the assassinations he carried out for his patron Trujillo.

Could be. But he was also probably drunk.

What a great thread. To contribute just a tiny bit, here are two shots I really like. I don't know who the first fellow is but he looks like some sort of Golden Era Hollywood star? Somehow very put together but also relaxed due to the ample drape.

More drape and a very nice lapel roll
