Update:

I was able to see the GS 221 in the metal and was underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s a fantastic watch and an excellent value proposition. It just wasn’t love at first sight, as I had hoped.

It didn’t help that I was looking at it in the company of some beautiful Langes. On that note, I saw a really nice L1, but in a configuration that isn’t high on my list. I also a Saxonia duel time and loved it!

I think it’s wonderfully proportioned and balanced, if not completely symmetrical.

I’m going to give it some thought…

If you didn't know, the L1 employs the Rule of Thirds and Golden Ratio throughout the design of the subdials. Once you see it you can't unsee it, making that watch all the more incredible.

This is why the L1 just shines above the rest compared to the others you mentioned

One must hold watches next to each other and wear them to know where the magic lies. I love the L1, but I’m telling you…the duel time has magic!

Guys one more question for you knowledgeable vintage buyers: I’ve only previously purchased pre owned watches with full sets. I’m currently looking at a Rolex watch that comes with “service” papers (card). Can I expect that this, at the least, means that Rolex has serviced the watch and thus validated its authenticity?

It's pretty easy to fake those too?

I wouldn't worry about cards or papers, they can all be faked as well.

Who are you buying from? I really wouldn't try private sellers unless they are very well known/high volume and have a good paper trail for the watch. IE they bought it from a reputable vintage dealer.

It's definitely a mine field...

If going rolex, post on The Rolex Forum's vintage section. Like 5 of us autists in this thread are also on that forum anyways lol
