Dude... NDS ain't a hype watch. Come on now. I mean - sure - if you're a 22 year old crypto bro or aspiring trust fund nepo baby that wants to just flex on the gram, then yes. Otherwise, no. It's literally as essential as it gets (except for the Explorer - but that's a f*cking dogsh*t watch that nobody wants and everyone that owns one should just flush it down a Waffle House toilet).
I love Rolex NDS, but m’man, it’s hyped af. Divide the price by the number of times you’ve used it’s “essential” features to scuba dive and get back to me. It’s a beautiful, iconic, LUXURY watch that’s current popularity is driven by brand to a much greater extent than by function. This isn’t a bad thing, necessarily, but saying THE MOST POPULAR ROLEX isn’t hyped, is delusional.

Ok - we're going to disagree here, and I think it's because of how we define "hype". The fact that the NDS has always been Rolex's core offering - and the most copied watch on earth - means that its popularity is not recent, and therefore not "hype".

How many times I wear it is irrelevant (especially because I own a lot of sh*t). Whether people actually dive with it is also irrelevant (who the f*ck dives?). The NDS's popularity has nothing to do with its function as a dive watch. It has everything to do with the fact that it's perfect for every day wear. Always has been. That's the opposite of hype. Is it hard to get now? Sure, but so is everything else Rolex stamps its crown on.

Re. snobby watch boutique SAs, I have always gotten first-rate attention from Lange SAs (in Miami) even when it was clear I wasn't buying. Not sure if that is still the case.

Haha…perfect for everyday wear in, say, London, or LA, where you simply need to explain to the hooligans that it’s not a hyped watch before they stab you for it. Rolex = hype. It’s a no-nonsense design, but still a highly hyped watch. We can certainly agree to disagree, though…

Woooooooooah. This is the new one, right? That's amazing. Please post more pictures and more often.

Yep - Tribute Calendar.. will do! I got it late last year and have been trying to collect Casa Fagliano straps while waiting for my first Rolex. Unfortunately, neither of the new burgundy and green leather-canvas straps come in 22mm lug width (yet?).

Damn...

I have been looking at the new BB54 more and more lately but then I see this and immediately know that this is the OG for a reason.

What reference/year is yours? Those lugs look pleasantly slim. I've been thinking about getting something from around 2005-2009, pre-maxi case, at some point.
