The Tie & Pocket Square Sets Offered by Retailers

Many retailers offer ties and pocket squares that match and usually are bad. Who buys them? As what - gifts? Has anyone here ever bought or been given a set? Do the pocket squares usually end up in drawers while the ties are used? It seems that matching is rarely done outside of weddings/receptions and TV studios.

This thread, major flop so far.

If anyone is curious why male TV hosts often wear matching squares, it's probably partly because TV became popular during the so-called golden age of menswear (when pocket squares were common) and because a white silk square might seem to distractingly jump off the screen.

Matching tie and pocket squares, from what I've seen are usually naff gift sets that never get worn, or it's a 1973 Monty Python album.
