I've said it before and I'll say it again, for black dress shoes, I have taken liking to Hudson. They are affordable, and they have that "not-your-grandfather's-black-shoe" kinda look, while not looking like a jackass. They have a range of more eccentric to more classic... I have the Livingston model, they have become old standbys.

I should really get one of my pairs of black captoe oxfords (BCOs) topied... Maybe the Carminas, they are on the Forest last which would look good with it I think.

really can't agree with this, there is nothing classic about the shoes, and look like Florsheims, and from my work colleagues' experience, last no more than a year before they literally fall apart.

I get my shoes topied for purely practical reasons, less slippery and no need to resole.

I like this thread...where would you put Santoni in your pecking order?

Nice to see Santoni mentioned here as I own a pair. I don't know enough about shoes to say where they land on a pecking order, but I'm very happy with them.

All of those look truly dreadful. I'd rather wear the eccentric shoes made by Prada...

Looking at the picture of the three most expensive pairs I feel you should let go of the Tricker's and AEs and add a pair of Vass on the F last.
They are my pair of black cap toes and I feel they would not fall short against those English beauties.
