What balmacaan and raglan style overcoats would people recommend? At the moment I'm looking at De Bonne Facture's grandad coat, Kaptain Sunshine's traveller coat, S.E.H Kelly's tweed balmacaan, Bryceland's tweed balmacaan and Drake's and Wythe's raglan coats. I already have a basic navy Uniqlo balmacaan so I want something that is a step up in quality and a bit more fun and interesting. I'm not sure which pattern/colour to go for next though. What colours and patterns would be considered quintessential for a collection? I really like the look of some of the tweed herringbone and houndstooth options, but I don't want something that will really age me as I'm in my twenties.

herringbone in mid/charcoal gray is pretty versatile without appearing old man (like a more beige/tattersall pattern would)

I have the Private White/Permanent Style donegal raglan coat in mid grey herringbone, and it might be the wearable coat I have. I've been stopped on the street and complimented for it by people in their 20s, and my tailor told me that when they had it hanging on the rack waiting for me to pick it up after some alterations, multiple clients inquired about it. The donegal is also sublime, as it's a bit more muted than many other donegals; I don't really want bright reds or greens in my coat, and this one is more on the brown and blue tones which doesn't stick out as much.

It's not a cheap coat, but if you're looking at Drakes, Private White prices should be well within your budget.

Thank you for this If you wouldn't mind expanding, why would you say a charcoal herringbone coat would be a better pick in terms of not aging you as opposed to a beige tattersall one?

IMHO, the Private White Donegal makes too much of a statement. I prefer something more subtle,

They usually restock in the autumn, may isn't really overcoat season in the UK.

IMHO, first one says "Sherlock Holmes" and the second one just says "big coat", I just have fewer connotations with something in a very neutral color and pattern like charcoal herringbone
