I think this brand, a South African merlot, is by far the most exquisite thing I have ever tasted. The price is very decent, especially when you consider the rand to dollars differential.

I highly suggest giving it a shot. South African wines are world celebrated and yet... less popular due to their lack of being imported.... the Country's laws prohibit it to a point... especially lately.

So, I realize that the baby sitter who stole two bottles of wine from me, one of the bottles was my last 1986 Mondavi, from the very first stash of wine I ever bought about 2 weeks after I turned 21. *****.

Well, we can't be exactly sure which baby sitter it was. There are three possibilities, one likely, and no way to prove it. Wine was not the only thing she took, either.

I only noticed two bottles missing and I knew which one of them was, but I couldn't remember the other. Then I was talking about Mondavi the other night and I went to look for it and, lo, it was gone.

That's awful. You can find '86 Mondavi for a very reasonable price online (though who knows the storage conditions) but the fact that you had held onto it since you were 21 is the sad part. At least it wasn't '86 DRC? :embar:

Sorry to hear, Manton. That sucks.

Palo Cortado is so delicious. I'm really enjoy the González Byass VORS Apósteles. And I'm very much looking forward to the bottle of Tradición Palo Cortado and demi-bouteille of El Maestro Sierra Vinos Viejos Palo Cortado--they should be fantastic too.

That sucks Mike, especially such a sentimental bottle. I have a keypad lock on the cellar, maybe I'm just paranoid.
