Personally, I'd disagree on the whiskey longwings - I don't have any whiskey myself, but I find I wear my lighter leathers far more often than my darks.

Would kill for a pair of ravello or whiskey in my rotation...

If I may steer the discussion back toward sales practices for a moment, is it normal practice to charge a customer's credit card for an item that the vendor knows is not in stock? I've got this scenario now with two companies (one of whom is a forum sponsor). They each charged my card at time of sale then proceeded to miss anticipated delivery dates without notifying me. With both companies, I've had to reach out to learn of the delays.

Am I off base to be frustrated with this? Is this a normal practice and I'm just being high maintenance, or am I right to think a company should send notice of delays exceeding a week (or three)?

Typically, a card is charged at the point of shipment. This is standard practice for any large retailer or public corporation with some oversight on these types of practices.

However, with these small independent retailers we deal with, it's really up to them. Plus, their system is probably set up to be as simple as possible.

Just a PSA, Alden of Carmel has a decent selection of "irregulars", including some cigar longwings. As many can attest, myself included, Adam's irregulars can often be better quality than many retailers first quality offerings.

I love wearing lighter brown leather and wear it much more than black, but there is a real distinction between brown leather and whiskey that can't be captured in a photo. I love my whiskey indy, but it isn't even close to the versatility that you will get from color 8. If he had those pants against a color 8 boot, that look would blow away this combo.

There is a term for this. It's called "bill and hold". Many businesses do this to recognize revenue sooner than they probably should under the accruals accounting methodology. It's something to look for when evaluating companies' financial statements. Typically analysts will make the adjustments necessary to have the balance sheet and income statement more reflective of actuality.

I think its understandable that you are frustrated. It would tick me off too.

So what's the deal with mahogany? I know that it isn't produced lately, at least for Alden, but I'm sure Horween still has the recipe and could whip some up if they wanted. I wonder if they'd be willing to do it if a retailed asked for it in a large enough quantity. Maybe its too close to cigar so they sort of just picked one or the other? Same with number #4 perhaps? Too close to Ravello, so they consolidated it in order to use that capacity to produce larger quantities of fewer colors?

(I realize that #4 is still produced occasionally, before anyone feels the need to point that out.)

Just curious if there was any explanation or theory behind the extinction of mahogany ever discussed.

Also, how come this thread isn't as busy as it was up until recently? I guess people aren't wearing their Aldens as much due to the season? Wearing flip flops so they don't have them on to snap and post photos?

I have a boring job, and this thread used to bring me the entertainment necessary to get me through the day.

...or maybe someone started a group called "Aldens Anonymous"?

Please don't accuse me of wearing flip flops.
