sfmdoc - nice to see you building an extensive collection of wide-sized Aldens. How does the fit of the chukkas compare to your bluchers?

Most of the shoes I have are on the Barrie last in 11 EEE or 11.5 EE. I tried on the 11 EEE shell chukka in the store and it was just a touch tighter on the right foot than the other 11 EEEs I have. That may also have just been swollen feet that day from walking around SF. The 11.5 EE shell chukka was better and was the equal to the 11.5 EE LWB in CXL that I have. I also tried the indy boot in 11 EEE on the trubalance last and I felt it was not a good fit as it was too tight.

Well my Frans Boone purchase just got even more pricey. Just got nailed for $80 customs fee from ups.. That along with the euro conversion this has turned into a very pricy Indy Boot. Will not make that mistake again.

I thought since they were made in the US there would not be duties and taxes. I thought wrong :) All my fault, I should have researched a tad more.

Legally you should be entitled to a customs refund for reinporting MiUSA goods. However, it is incumbent upon the vendor to fill out the required paperwork properly prior to shipment. Guess how many retailers are thrilled to do so?

Also, UPS is the worst.

I learned this through a similar mistake.

Not Frans Boone I guess lol. I have learned from this as well. Tomorrow I will have what I hope is a beautiful $944 #8 Indy boot on the plaza last;)
If anyone is interested I'll let them go for a cool grand.

Hat tip to @seasquirrel for hooking me up for these chukkas. Maiden voyage of the #8 shell with commando sole. I found that the ankle irritation is greatly reduced and the boot more comfortable if one avoids cranking down the tightness of the laces. Maybe I will tighten them more once they have broken in to a better degree.

I'm a big Indy fan. The generous last and Thomas heels are like heaven for my flat dogs. I wanted something a little dressier than the selection of Indys out there so I asked Mack at Brogue to see if Alden would make up a dark brown scotch grain Indy with all eyelets and the standard comfy neocork sole and Thomas heel. I'm very happy with how these came out.

Been on the fence about color for years, but finally bit the bullet and picked up some Alden Whiskey Shell Cordovan Short Wings... Can't wait to wear them tomorrow.
