Delivery day! These are all ******* amazing, and they fit like a glove. Shipping method left a little bit to be desired, but all came through well enough, other than a few scratches here and there. The official makeups of them are Frans Boone Ravello Plaza Indy, TSM Ravello WTB, Leathersoul #8 Plaza Cap, J Gilbert #8 Plaza WTB. The plazas are 12D, the Barrie is 11.5D. Really, really, really glad I went with this new sizing paradigms (Brannock size for Barrie boots, Brannock +1/2 for Plaza boots). They fit me perfectly and snugly all around. Wearing the Plaza #8 WTBs to kick things off today.

What a mother lode! The stuff of dreams...

Allow me to lament for a moment here...its unfortunate that we have to scour and search the Fora and Ebay and/or pay exorbitant prices on the secondary market for Alden rarities...

Alden needs to drop some rare shell bombs on us soon please.

Thanks.

Maiden voyage for these today. Had my cobbler take the antique edge and welt to black. Plaza and Wingtip could be my favorite combo.

Decided to go down the same path as @adamf009 and turn the antique edge of these Plaza lasted WT boots black.

Took them to my cobbler, who sanded the edge, then painted both the edge and the welt black and finished by waxing the edge (maybe also the welt, not sure). Here's the result.

Total cost: $13.60. Taxes included.

Plaza is such a better last for the dark edge/last. It is frustrating that no one seems to be doing that make up anymore since Yenni took over from J.Gilbert. I've tried to get her to do the make up with dark edges, but antique edge with #8 has been too hot. I'm on the next order for her antique edge #8 WT boots, but I'd much rather have the dark edge/welt on a Plaza #8 WT boot.

Immediately put on the plaza wtbs. Wet muddy day calls for commando sole, and wanted to test the size of these out before I put any creases/mud/scratches on the ravello indy's. For a while I thought I preferred the antique on the #8 plaza too, but I think in retrospect I much prefer the look of dark edge that gets scratched and worn down to a patina'd brown.

I second this wholeheartedly! I am happy he found such gems at a reasonable price but I have to admit bummed me out. I wear a 7.5d barrie and trying to find any rare shell is unheard of unless you pay over a grand from Japan! Come on Alden!!

Meetings today with attorneys in my alter ego of "highly intelligent expert" and this calls for shoes that say "Hey, this guy is worth what he is being paid." Black shell PCTs were summoned from the bull pen for the job.

The #8 stuff gets love, but the thread gets amped up over the exotics. Its like taking a good looking woman to the football game. She may be good looking, but you still ogle the cheerleaders.

My favorite pair of Aldens! As I am late to the party, there are no exotics in my arsenal, so it's nice to come here and see what others have collected. Maybe one day...
