The late MIL's house in semi-rural WA went under contract today for $525K. She bought the land for something like $40K in the late 80s and built two crappy shacks that weren't even remotely to code, because she was busy being in a cult and that's just how she rolled generally. When the area became organized enough to have things like inspectors and she couldn't actually bend reality to her will to make them go away, we paid to have those bulldozed and spent $150K on a kit home for her that she happily occupied until she recently departed this plane of existence. Wife is deeding it to her sister, who quit her job to look after their mother in her decline. This gets the sister over her retirement target number and thus frees us from two longer-term worries in fairly quick succession. Thank you to the Federal Reserve System et al.

You too can hang out with @Michigan Planner and I as we discuss all things midwest.
Tell you what- I'll go to the one five minutes from my house and then stare at a wall while I eat it. That's probably as much fun as talking about the Midwest.

Congrats, @Omega Male

In the latest horror for those of us trying to figure out renovations in Los Angeles.
Home depot price for a 48"x 8' oriented plywood board is at $52.
Last week was $38.
5 years ago during the lumber shortage was $14.
My sister and her husband were about to start building a house in VT last Summer but have postponed indefinitely because of the skyrocketing cost of materials.

I heard on Marketplace that there's some asshole Canuck beetle killing off a third of their lumber trees.

My contractor doesn't like how the engineer has designed our deck. He's going to build it like she drew it, but he has made sure I know he's not happy about it. At least twice. As long as the ******* thing passes inspection and doesn't fall down, IDGAF.

GTFO with froyo. Frozen Custard rules all.

Both are great!

Ice cream, frozen custard, frozen yogurt, soft serve ice cream, gelato... all are great!

I would be lying if I said the ability to walk to an ice cream shop didn't play into my decision to buy our current house.
