I've heard that in some female dominated jobs, if you're a guy you sometimes get ahead without even trying just by virtue of being the only guy, therefore perceived as somehow more competent. Just curious if anyone here has ever had such an experience in the workplace.
I will say that I've seen this happen to a friend but not for the reasons listed above. He joined a firm because his peers and superiors were females in "baby prime years" (his words). Sure enough, they started popping out kids and going away on mat leave. This allowed him to take on more responsibility and become more integral part of the firm which assured his promotion.
