PS has a few made in italy pieces each season; also a handful of made in USA by oxxford
@papado is correct. The Stuart's Choice line is Oxxford made in the US. They have a few Made in Italy suits but I'm unsure of the maker. All the rest is Samuelsohn.

I've see a few older PS on eBay that were apparently Isaia.

When I go the Paul Stuart outlet here in the DC area all the suits are the dandyish ones. The staples must sell better.

I'm a long-time customer of Paul Stuart and watched from the sidelines as they introduced the Phineas Cole line. Yes it is more dandy, but no more than some of the expressive, dandy stuff that Ralph Lauren has included regularly within his collections since his early years. No idea how much of it actually sells but it certainly makes a statement for editorial reasons and to attract a guy who wants to make a certain style statement within their work or social life.

Why was Phineas Cole so expensive if it was marketed to a younger crowd?

I don’t think it was necessarily marketed to a younger crowd. I was not particularly young when I was buying it nor were the other customers at the time.

Also, PS will never be in the budget category, competing with Suit Supply et al. I thought PC stuff was fairly priced compared to other Samulesohn offerings. The fabrics used were pricey and designed, in many cases, by Ralph Auriemma, who was and maybe still is responsible for PC.

Not sure. I think (just a guess) that it was marketed at a younger but urban and moneyed crowd or maybe older dudes who were mature enough to act out sartorially? Some of the newer PC stuff is a bit cheaper than it used to be so maybe they are aiming wider?

I've had only a few Samuelsohn suits but found them a bit stiff and chunky. The stuff they make for PS is echelons better.

I think the only other Samulesohn suits I recall handling were the ones made for PS. Was never interested in the brand outside of PC.

With PC, you are getting a good make, excellent fabrics that you can’t often get elsewhere (since they were PC designs), and their silhouettes. Depending on the fabrics of course, many of the PC suits were sub $2K retail and quite a few were sub $1,500. That compares favorably with SF favorite maker Eidos, which in my opinion, produced an inferior suit and sport coat.

Plus one, would have picked PC over Eidos for sure, different aesthetics for sure, but would definitely buy PC instead.

I have sold quite a bit Eidos tailoring stuff (and still trying to sell some) while keeping all my PC stuff

I remember a lot of the suits being priced at $2200 back in 2008. Way out of the price range of someone just starting out. If anything they have reduced the prices.

You are assuming the brand was targeted to people just starting out. Those people went to Jos Banks. I can’t imagine anyone’s first set of suits being a one button peak lapel with hacking pockets. The stuff was geared to a different audience.

Many of the suits over $2k were cashmere blends. There were many other options priced in the $1,800s and $1,300s. Source: my closet.

yea, initially it's all 1 button peak lapel, very loud, can't imagine most people would buy that as first suit for working...
