'clicking' again when meeting old friends

a book that keeps you up at night because you can't put it down

Driving home for Christmas, whether across the entire Great Plains or from a nearby town; pulling the car into Grandma's house.

Ritual gatherings with the family or friends (annual "guys' weekend," 4th of July picnic)

A deer standing on the green at the 17th, October 1990

CV-66 returning to Norfolk

September on a college campus

Salt sticks from the Detroit Bagel Factory, Vernors, Honeybaked Hams, and all the Detroit foods of my youth (is taste the most vivid sense?)

Anything perfectly executed: Norelco beard trimmer, John Eliot Gardiner Beethoven 5th, Marine Corps drill team in DC barracks, medium-rare done medium-rare

Ray Harryhausen movies.
Saint Etienne's I Love to Paint album
The cool way that parrots' (and other psitticines') necks stretch out when they reach for things -- like skalogre's avatar.

Made me think of:

* The moment just before seeing your presents on Christmas morning. All hope and expectation is in that moment before the reality--no matter how good--takes it away. Sadly, this dwindles as one gets older, but having a few kids around can revitalize it.

Thursday afternoon (when I was in college)

Sunday after 2:00 (when I was an associate trying to make partner)

Friday after 4:00 (when I realized there was more to life than being a partner)

Running on the beach.

Sitting by the beach after the run and a shower, completely fatigued, with a drink in one hand, watching the ocean with a book you know you will not read on your stomach.

Beating your buddy up the mountain when you were both just out for a "non-competitive, slow run".

His admitting that he had no gas left for the last hundred meters.

Hot coffee on Half Dome (Yosemite) early in the morning, before anyone else is up, watching the sun rise.

Taking your pack off after a full day's hike.

The good aching feeling the day after a really tough workout.

Watching a movie on Saturday afternoon on a warm day, knowing that the only other things on your agenda is dinner and then a few drinks.

Going to sleep after a long day with your s.o.(keeping the definition open for the various tastes/orientation on the forum). As RJMan mentioned, the way parrots reach for things like treats and toys- and the way our little birds get so excited when we get home, and sit on our shoulders chattering away and preening our non-existent feathers. Edit: the way parrots eat
7751770221050alb8nv.jpg
The fact that parrots show a foot preference for eating and manipulating objects (some left-clawed, some right-clawed) Putting your legs up at the end of the day on the desk even if it means you lose your balance a bit. A nice good curry, lots of roti/naan, and a strong, hoppy, IPA. The aroma of cooking basmati. The aroma of pork braising in a pan with crushed coriander and strong red wine.
