I don't have many occasions to wear a suit, but with prices falling all around me I thought this would be a good time to get a nice one without breaking the bank. However, all the suits I've seen in the past two days that are in my jacket size (41L or 42, depending on the maker) come with 36" slacks, and I've got a 33" waist.
Naturally, the sales clerks all assure me that the slacks can easily be taken in, but I'm skeptical, mostly because my tailor told me that a man who's between sizes should generally buy slacks too small and have them let out rather than buy them too big and have them taken in, especially if one is looking for a slim and streamlined appearance.
I know there are several guys in this forum whose drops are bigger than mine. What do you guys do to get suits that fit? Do you buy suit separates, or do you buy the suit with the big-ass slacks and hire a sail-maker to remove the excess fabric?
