Suede chukka boots

I`ll add the Tyrwhitt boot to my list. How is the quality of Thyrwitt shoes?
I`m looking for some chukkas compareable to EG or Vass in terms of quality.

I have a pair of stag suede chukkas, which are rather rare, made by C&J on the way from Jeremy Law of Scotland (www.moccasin.co.uk). I'll update when I get them. C&J make quite a few different chukka models and are good quality; maybe not quite EG/Vass, but excellent whether mainline or handgrade. Otherwise, both EG and Vass make chukkas, although you may need to special order them.

Tyrwhitts are above average, from what I hear. I'm sure they're a good value at half off, but yeah, they're definitely not as good as other companies I've heard of here.

I have visited my local EG retailer a few days ago, but find it rather difficult to imagine how the Banbury boot would look in the different kinds of suede that EG offers, judging from a swatch book and a catalog.

What is the difference between stag suede and reversed calf in terms of texture, nap etc.?

I tried on the Tyrwhitte/Loake chukkas the other day - they're not awful, but not great either. Comfortable, yes. Stylish? Not quite seeing it - toe is just too rounded and large. Quality is solid but the leather is a bit stiffer than I expected. I suppose it would soften up in time.

My favourite suede chukkas are as follows : Church's (rugged but 'polite') ; Foster & Son (a little more sleek) ; Santoni (Italian lounge lizard).

RJ - I'll be interested in your report when you receive the Jeremy Law/C&J boots. Any idea if these are made to handgrade standards?

Clarks always has the classic suede chukka. Cole Haan makes them. Even, Doc Martens also does them.
