Good afternoon Gentlemen,

I am about to start a new position that requires me to wear suits every day. My previous position was in an extremely casual workplace so I am basically starting fresh. After reading here I know there are a few things I need to purchase immediately (Navy Suit, light blue shirt, more ties).

I currently have a dark grey suit that I wear regularly:

While I think my "go-to" shirt/tie combo looks nice, it bores me (the actual color of this suit is somewhere between the above picture, and the below):

I am trying to step it up a little bit, but my limited selection is failing me. I hate this tie, but I like the idea here, i think a solid navy tie would look nice here.

I also own one other suit, but I fear it is too light in color for the workplace (I am in the SE USA on the coast, so I might be able to get away with it, will know more when I see what everyone else is wearing).

Finally, here are the current passable ties I own, I have a few that are not pictured here that I love (large paisley pattern) but I think they are not conservative enough to wear to work. The only tie I actually like of these four is the green one.

I suppose I need a little guidance on some "staple" ties to buy that would work with what I currently own as well as a Navy Suit which I anticipate buying soon. If I wear a pocket square, I wear plain white linen one, folded in a square, though I do like the orange gingham one above (and have it in red and in purple). What shirt colors would work with the above ties? I should note that for the time being, I am on a pretty tight budget, this should hopefully change soon as work picks up.

Thank you in advance for all your help and especially for reading this far if you made it-

All the best,
Bumper.

Edit: If this is in the wrong place, I apologize. Please feel free to move it and I'll take the wrist slap.

Look at ties like these:

While these are likely out of your price range, you should be able to find similar patterns on the discount tables at your local department store. You can eventually invest in better stuff.

Keep the tie patterns simple, and you can purchase shirts that have faint patterns on them without concern, and combine each of your shirts/suits/ties to create multiple combinations.

I would ditch the square, or go with a white one until you are able to get a feel for it better. The combo you posted is not a good one, so take it slow on that front.

Thank you for the tie suggestions OMR- The combo I posted is not something I have ever worn out of the house (thankfully). I was just trying something new at which clearly failed! I only wear white squares for the time being as they seem the safest. It seems as if most around here go for navy / maroon / various blue shades of ties so I will stick to those for the time being with some subtle pattern as you posted.

Thanks again!
