Source for classic pajamas, made in USA?

Gentlemen, looking for quality pajamas in broadcloth or oxford cloth pinpoint -- white or light blue with contrasting piping and drawstring waist. It's hard to find any still made in USA. Here's the style I'm looking for without the weird idea of "Wrinkle free fabric" (what's the point for pajamas??): http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatPr...._Id=202 Any ideas? Founds some good Brit. ones but they're expensive. New & Lingwoods look really good.

Not so long ago, there were three "gentleman's" pajama makers at work in the US.  These were the makers that supplied Neiman's, Saks', and the best traditional men's shops.  The least distinguished, but largest and most diverse was Knothe (pronounced NO thee).  The brandname was never much of a presence since most of Knothe's better pajamas were sold to specialty shops under private label. The bulk of their business, however, is done in department store and promotional brands such as Pleatway. You may recall the A-B-C sizing at Brooks Brothers.  Knothe used their medium-large-extra-large patterns for sizes A-B-C in Christmasy tartan flannels, etc.

The second was Embassy Apparel, which was located in Florida.  Embassy was better known for boxer shorts, but they also made pajamas in traditional shirting fabrics.

The last was Whitehall, which, for a while, was related to Troy Shirtmakers Guild and manufactured in Graniteville, NY.  Whitehall was the highest priced and the most luxurious make, but were a phantom presence in the market.  One year their satin stripes and Sea Island cottons seemed to be in all the best stores, then, they would disappear for a few years.

I Googled all three.  Knothe is clearly still active.  Whitehall didn't show up.  And saddest of all, Embassy appeared only on a roll on the PBGC site, suggesting they may have gone out of business and abandoned their pensioners.

A possible alternative is sold at Maus Hoffman in Florida,(Main store in Fort Lauderdale). They sell both long and short sleeve versions of USA made cotton PJ's. About $100.
Another non-USA alternative is Derek Rose from England.

Actually, once upon a time, A-B-C-D was the standard for pajama sizing in the states, "A" being the nocturnal analogue for size small and "D" for extra large.

US Made Pajamas. That is a tough one. Knothe was bought by some other large company. I think their factories have been closed. Good Riddence to Embassy. I have nothing nice to say about the guy who owned that company. The White hall factory in Troy is gone for way over 10 years. The people who make my boxers are starting to make Pajamas. I have not seen any samples yet. I think Duke Gambert (gambert Daughters) could make some. They would retail for way over $100. They might be making for Maus & Haufman and Paul Stuart. Where are the Brooks PJ's made? Most custom shirtmakers will reluctanly make pajamas. They have to sell for twice the cost of a shirt, assuming that decent fabric is being used. Carl www.cego.com
