An outfit I've worn with my green shell cordovan half brogues:

Brown corduroy trousers.
White dress shirt + tie.
Green corduroy jacket

Sometimes I've accompanied this with a brown tweed waist coat.

Other times I wore a grey Irish sweater instead of a dress shirt beneath the corduroy jacket, especially during colder months when I didn't want to wear an overcoat.

:confused2:

Why do you think that's a bad combo, sans the green shoes?

I take out the green shoes and replace them with Crockett and Jones Pembrokes. Does the outfit work for you now?

You might try it, for starters anyway, with something less crisp/formal-ish than white for the shirt. See how you like that.

I would not wear a green corduroy sport coat with brown corduroy pants and a tweed waistcoat.

Personally would do:

- Green corduroy sport coat (assuming the green is right; green jacketings can sometimes be difficult to get right).
- Tan chinos or whipcord trousers
- A light blue and white striped OCBD
- Brown suede chukkas, loafers, or derbies
- A matching suede belt.

No tweed waistcoat. Silk rep or wool tie if you want, but if you're going to do a wool tie, I would just do a light blue OCBD instead of striped. Corduroy + striped + patterned tie can sometimes be busy. Easier to switch to a solid shirt.

Thanks acapaca. What colour would you suggest?

Why would you choose a light blue here for the shirt?

No, but I'm not limited by the absence of imagination.

Me trying to see what's inside your head

More proof he is not a white supremacist: white shirts are not always good.

Okay.

Any alternatives to blue here?

Also:

Why is Peter o'toole wearing a white dress shirt wrongly here?

Well, once you depart from white, anything (that goes) is going to get you into that realm of 'not like you're wearing a worsted suit', which is going to give you a better chance at harmony overall. Me, I'd try a nice aged denim with some sweet patina!

The whole white shirt discussion happened a long time ago, and it ended up being a very long thread. I think it would be more useful to just read that thread, rather than debate specific examples here.

In the outfit I described, I would only wear a light blue or a white-and-light-blue striped shirt. But if someone wanted to rusticate it, I think tattersall would be OK.

Try imagining tan chinos or whipcords (let's say whipcords), a light blue oxford, and a number of different earthy tweeds.

No need to imagine! I can pull up a photo:

I don't think I'd have any qualms about wearing these. It's sometimes hard to tell by the pics when it comes to shades like this, but to me they look like they'd just wear like brown.

Stitchdown says they are coming from a 'friendly local gentlemen's haberdashery', which gives me all the feels.

Portland, Maine’s David Wood Clothiers is a wonderful throwback men’s shop—a friendly local gentlemen’s haberdashery that will actually spend time with you and learn (and develop!) your personal style. These loden suede tassels are their latest of a growing makeup program. Definitely keep an eye on David Wood.

These, on the other hand, look like they would be harder to pair:
